Join Doug Tallamy, as he presents “Rebuilding Nature’s Relationships at Home.”
Tallamy, author of Brining Home Nature and Professor and Chair of the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware, will explain why specialized relationships between animals and plants are the norm in nature rather than the exception. It is specialized relationships that provide birds with insects and berries, that disperse bloodroot seeds, that pollinate goldenrod. Plants that evolved in concert with local animals provide for their needs better than plants that evolved elsewhere.
Tallamy will explore why specialized food relationships determine the stability and complexity of the local food webs that support animal diversity, why it is important to restore life to our residential properties, and what we can do to make our landscapes living ecosystems once again. This lecture is presented by the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture.
