Ambler Arboretum Director Kathy Salisbury will be presenting at the Ecological Landscaping Alliance's Annual Conference and Eco-marketplace, which will take place online from Wednesday, February 22, at 10 a.m. through Thursday, February 22, 4:30 p.m. This multi-day virtual event features speakers on a wide variety of topics designed to inspire and provide innovative landscape solutions.
Salisbury will be presenting “Silver Linings and Lemonade: An Arboretum Post-Natural Disaster.” In September 2021, an EF 2 tornado catastrophically damaged the 187-acre Ambler Arboretum. After losing more than 500 trees in the horticultural collection, Salisbury was faced with answering the question of how and what do you teach when your outdoor classroom and living laboratory are destroyed in minutes. She will take participants of the conference through the history of the Ambler Arboretum, the process of recovery that continues to this day, and envision a future of a natural space changed forever while sharing the lessons, from climate change to the resilience of trees, learned on the way.
