There are few people that haven’t enjoyed the rich, varied majesty of the country’s national parks at some point in their lives. In 2016, the National Park Service will celebrate its centennial year.
On January 29 and 31, join Michael LoFurno, adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture, as he presents the dynamic 100-year history of the National Park Service from 1916 to 2016. LoFurno will highlight the impact, influence and contributions made by landscape architects on the development of our national parks while exploring local treasures such as Valley Forge, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Hopewell Furnace.
Hopewell Furnace in particular provides the inspiration for Temple University’s 2016 exhibit for the Philadelphia Flower Show, “After the Blast: Recollecting Roots and Resources at Hopewell Furnace” — LoFurno is a key member of the faculty team coordinating the exhibit. Presented by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the theme of the 2016 Flower Show is “Explore America: 100 Years of the National Park Services."
CEU credits are available for landscape architects — 1.8 CEUs for $18.
