Take some time out to show others that you care. Ambler Campus Student Life, in partnership with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Phi Beta Omega Chapter, invites all students, faculty, staff and alumni to help them make “no-sew” blankets and "no sew" bags during the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service.
The blankets will be donated to Interfaith Housing. The “no-sew” bags, filled with items from the Basic Needs Drive (see below), will be donated to the PA WorkWear Program.
No experience is necessary. Volunteers may stay 10 minutes to four hours — as long as they are able to give — helping to tie the fleece blankets. Donations will also be gratefully accepted from anyone wishing to donate fleece to make blankets or individuals who would like to simply donate a blanket(s). Donations of gently used t-shirts are also requested. Supplies will be provided and refreshments will be served.
In addition to creating “no-sew” blankets and bags, the Office of Student Life and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will also host a “Basic Needs Drive” during the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service.
The following donated items are being sought for the drive: unused hair care products; professional handbags; unused dental hygiene products; unused hosiery and undergarments; unused body sprays, lotions, powders, deodorants, make-up and toiletries; closed-toe professional women’s shoes in all sizes; and women’s business/casual summer and spring attire, sizes 0 to 32.
The Basic Needs Drive will benefit the PA WorkWear Program. The goal of the PA WorkWear Program is to help empower individuals transitioning into the workforce.
