Some of the most degraded and decrepit sites have been restored to remarkable wildlife habitat. What we can claim, after three decades of restoration is that “If you build it, they will come.” If we can bring ecosystems back to landfills, superfund sites and brownfields, we can bring surprising wildlife habitat to our yards, parks and open spaces.
Presenter William Young, PWS, CERP, is founder of Young Environmental, LLC, a design/build firm specializing in ecological restoration, especially restoration of disturbed lands. Young has had a varied career, working in both private and public sectors in several states, and has many projects under his belt. He graduated with a B.S. degree from SUNY College of Forestry at Syracuse, in Environmental Sciences/Landscape Architecture and an M.S. degree in Urban Design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. A professional wetland scientist, Young continues his studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches part-time at the School of Design, Masters of Landscape Architecture. He has taught Applications in Ecology: Reclamation of Large Scale Sites since 2003.
Designed for the home and hobby gardeners as well as horticultural professionals, the Ambler Arboretum Horticulture Lecture Series, presented by regional experts, will inspire participants while challenging their way of thinking about horticulture.
