Join us for a celebration of the music, creativity, and iconoclasm of American composer Charles Ives, whose sesquicentennial birthday we celebrate this month. Born and raised in Danbury, Connecticut on October 20, 1874, Charles Ives learned early on from his bandmaster father to hear beauty and wonder in all the different combinations of sounds around him, even when others couldn’t hear it. As a result, he left us a wealth of music that defies late 19th and early 20th century practice—music that challenges, inspires, and delights. Philadelphia-based musicologist and organist Chase Castle will provide context and enlightening commentary on this program of songs, chamber works, and piano music performed by Temple Boyer faculty.
Featuring:

Marcus DeLoach, baritone

Julian Jenson, piano
