Beyond the Notes: Tangled Strings

    Temple University Libraries
Chris Coyle. Photo by Gab Bongh

Join bassist and composer Chris Coyle (Boyer class of 2010), renowned guitarist/composer Matt Davis (Boyer class of 2001), and violinist and composer June Bender (Boyer class of 2009) for a presentation of original music that straddles the traditions of Jazz, Folk, and Chamber music. Experience what Coyle, a longtime musical omnivore, describes as the exciting “entanglement” of these styles and the transfer of their inherent sounds and concepts. This trio aims to open the minds of audiences and fellow performers and to tackle head-on the limitations of stylistic exclusivity. String-trio writing that sounds at home in Nashville? Fiddle melodies that leave the safety of diatonic structure? Connecting Jazz roots with strange harmonies? Let’s try it all!

Registration is encouraged but not required for in person attendance. Registration is required for Zoom access.
