Race in Italy: Changing Narratives

Hosted through the Cultural and Identity Envoy Program, Race in Italy is an event held by Temple University Rome every semester to initiate important conversations with our students and connect them to the Afroitalian community in Italy. Students and guests discuss narrative of race in Italy, between their home countries and Italy, and how to navigate these cultural differences while studying abroad. This semester's dialogue will be with community leaders and activists Marie Moïse, Susanna Owusu Twumwah, and Ada Ugo Abara.
Marie Moïse is an Haitian-Italian activist and a precarious researcher. She received her Ph.D in Political philosophy from the University of Padua and Toulouse 2. She is a board member of the antiracist association Razzismo Brutta Storia and she’s also member of the quarterly magazine Jacobin Italia editorial board. She writes about racism, feminism, and politics of care. She has co-authored several collections of feminist and afrofeminist essays and short stories.
Susanna Owusu Twumwah, Ghanaian born in Italy, has recently concluded her Masters in Migration and Diaspora Studies and has a BA in International Cooperation and Development Studies. Susanna is a Development, Diversity and Diaspora consultant for national and international organisations specialised in Communication.
Ada Ugo Abara, Nigerian born project manager in Development Cooperation and CEO D-Tech 4Good. Ada holds a Master's Degree in Development, Cooperation and Innovation in the Global Economy and she is the founder and president of the association Arising Africans.
