Title: “Harnessing the Data Revolution in Ecology: Bridging Biodiversity Theory and Stakeholder Needs”
Abstract: Dr. Helmus is a quantitative ecologist who focuses on how ecological and evolutionary processes interact naturally to generate biodiversity and how humans disrupt those processes. His work is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary. His study systems are Caribbean reptiles and amphibians, and the spotted lanternfly. In this seminar, Dr. Helmus will present his research that addresses global change questions within island biogeography and invasion biology using ecoinformatic approaches that leverage big data, modeling, and effective stakeholder communication.
