Book Talk and Signing with Basketball Legend Valerie Still

    Temple University Libraries
    Valerie Still

Join us at the Blockson Collection for an afternoon with basketball legend Valerie Still. She will read from her new memoir, Playing Black & Blue: Still I Rise, which examines the history of women’s basketball, University of Kentucky sports, race and gender in America, the history of an African American legacy family, and the intersection of race, class, gender, and religion in America.

Still is a University of Kentucky Basketball all-time leading scorer and rebounder (men or women), former American Basketball League (ABL) team member, Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) great, and recent nominee to the Naismith Hall of Fame and Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

Her family tree includes cousin Caroline Still Wiley Anderson, a remarkable woman who was one of the first female African-American doctors in Philadelphia, and her great-great-granduncle famed abolitionist William Still, known by many as the “father of the Underground Railroad.”

This program is part of the Libraries' Beyond the Page public programming series. More at library.temple.edu/beyondthepage.
