In honor of Black History Month, the Film and Media Arts Department presents a special FREE community screening of the 1992 classic movie Boomerang (Reginald Hudlin, USA, 1992). Revisiting this 90s box-office hit is an excellent opportunity to create community dialogue around positive representations of African Americans on-screen, as well as contextualize the new Lena Waithe television reboot that premieres this month on BET. 

Prior to the feature film, there will be an exclusive one-time screening of the award-winning experimental documentary short film Rise - winner of the 2019 Berlin International Film Festival. The film is a stunning celebration of diverse voices that includes both traditional and contemporary elements of Black music. Special thanks to filmmakers Barbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca of Brazil for sharing this work with the Temple and Philadelphia community. 

Now in its third year, the FMA Black History Month Event is in collaboration this year with the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, Let's Live Philly, The Fellowship: Black Male Educators for Social Justice and Campus Philly.
