Dale Jamieson (Departments of Environmental Studies & Philosophy Director of Center for Environmental and Animal Protection, New York University)
Please join us for a lecture by Dale Jamieson titled “The Misunderstood Risks of Climate Change”.
Climate change is increasingly coming to attention as the profound challenge that it is. Our media is saturated with the "Biblical" risks that it poses: floods, fires, epidemics, and even plagues of locusts. These risks are real, but there are other risks that are more profound yet neglected. These include risks to our political institutions and our sense of meaning. In order for these risks to be addressed, the epistemology and rhetoric of climate change will have to be liberated from what I call 'climate central'. But for these new voices to play a constructive role they will have to respect the facts.
This lecture is part of the CHAT Climate Speaker Series.
