"Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant? - Death and Dying in Contemporary Comics

    College of Liberal Arts
    Melissa Hamilton

How do we process pain? Cope with loss? Move forward after death? And can comics aid our grief? Join comic artist and educator Melissa Hamilton as she discusses these questions and many more while exploring issues of death and dying in the graphic narrative, both past and present. In addition to illustrating how comics can act as a metaphor for memory, Melissa will also be reading from her soon-to-be published graphic novel, Bookends, a story revolving around the loss of her parents to cancer.
