Peking Opera: Peking (Beijing) Opera, the most significant of all operas in China, is a form of traditional Chinese theater that emerged in the late 18th century. It is a synthesis of stylized action, singing, dialogue and mime, acrobatic fighting and dancing that depict different characters and represent a story. The repertoire of Peking Opera is mainly engaged in fairy tales of preceding dynasties, important historical events, emperors, ministers and generals, geniuses and great beauties.

The Philadelphia Chinese Opera Society’s Peking Opera performance has eight play excerpts from different time periods on subjects from love at first sight, battle fields, royal court concubines to ethics and justice.

Confucius Institute at Temple University: The Confucius Institute at Temple University (CITU) is a collaboration between Temple University, Zhejiang Normal University and the Confucius Institute Headquarters, a non-profit NGO promoting Chinese language and culture throughout the world. CITU’s mission is to provide resources and instructional support for the Chinese language program at Temple, to increase the number of students learning Chinese in the Greater Philadelphia area schools, and to promote Chinese language, culture and healthy lifestyles based on traditional Chinese practices in cooking and exercise in our region. Currently there are three faculty and staff members from Temple and three faculty members from Zhejiang Normal University.

Philadelphia Chinese Opera Society: The Philadelphia Chinese Opera Society (PCOS) was established in 1999 as a community based non-profit organization. The mission of the society is to promote culture diversity and exchange through educational activities and touring engagements. They take pride in contributing to the enhancement of quality of life in their community and raising public awareness and appreciation of Chinese vocal and visual arts.
