The Faculty of Color committee (FOC) and the Temple Libraries invite you to join us for "When Sonia Speaks: A Conversation with Sonia Sanchez".
The first presidential fellow at Temple University, Sonia Sanchez—poet, activist, scholar—Sonia was among the first seven faculty named Laura Carnell Professors in 1988. A tenured professor of English in the College of Arts and Sciences, Sonia retired in1999 with ‘Professor Emeritus’ distinction.
Recipient of both the Robert Frost Medal for distinguished lifetime service to American poetry and the Langston Hughes Poetry Award, Sonia Sanchez is credited with the creation of Black Studies at San Francisco State and was one of the most important writers that came out of the Black Arts Movement.
Joining in the month-long city-wide celebration of activist, poet, playwright, scholar Sonia Sanchez, please join us for an in-person conversation and reading with Professor Emeritus, Sanchez, Thursday, September 26th (at the Charles Library, 1900 N. 13th Street, on Temple University's main campus) from 2:30-4pm, as part of the Faculty Senate Committee on the Status of Faculty of Color and the Temple Libraries Chat-in-the-Stacks speaker's series. Going into our 15th year collaboration, this special event with Dr. Sonia Sanchez is co-sponsored by the Temple University Academic Center on Research in Diversity (ACCORD), the Department of English and the Faculty Senate.
