The Chinese New Year begins January 28th this year, and starts the Year of the Rooster. Also known as the Lunar New Year, it is a major holiday in China and other Asian countries. It falls on the first day of the lunar calendar and marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. The Chinese New Year is celebrated for 2 weeks and ends with the Lantern Festival. Common activities associated with celebrating the Chinese New Year include: spring cleaning, hanging paper lanterns, pasting couplets, setting off firecrackers, eating dumplings and fish, giving out lucky money and getting together with family for a reunion dinner.
