Civic Engagement in Diverse Latinx Communities: Learning from Social Justice Partnerships in Action

    About the lecture

    This presentation will discuss the principles of Latinx community-academic praxis and its possibilities in civic engagement efforts that take place within the collaborative framework of community-based learning and social justice research partnerships.

    About the speaker

    Dr. Mari Castañeda is the dean of the Commonwealth Honors College and a professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She is also affiliated with the Center for Latin American, Caribbean and Latina/o Studies, and Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies. Dr. Castañeda’s fields of study include Latinx/Chicana communication studies, digital media and communications policy and academic cultures of care. Her research and engaged scholarship has appeared in multiple journals/monographs, and is she co-editor of Mothers in Academia.
