Finite gauging and gapped/gapless SPT phases

    abstract:

We will review how the gapped symmetry protected topological phases can be understood through symmetry breaking phases, via the Kennedy-Tasaki (KT) transformation. In modern language, the KT transformation is interpreted as gauging a finite symmetry. We further apply the KT transformation to understand the gapless symmetry protected topological phases, and study their stability.
