Join us for a post-election panel discussion on the historical nature of the 2024 presidential elections in Mexico and the United States. Scholars from both countries will compare and contrast the campaigns of Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum — sworn into office on October 1, 2024 — and the Harris/Trump faceoff in the United States. We will collectively reflect on the gendered dynamics of the campaigns, the rise of populism, processes of political polarization and radicalization in the US context, and the role of the media in the democratic process.
Panelists will feature Klein College professors Geoffry Baym, Bruce Hardy and Carolyn Kitch.
International panels will include
Martin Echeverría, head and researcher of the Center for Political Communication Studies at Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, Mexico;
Rúben Arnoldo González, professor and researcher at the Institute of Government Sciences and Strategic Development at Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, Mexico;
and Juan S. Larrosa-Fuentes, KLN '18, director of the Department of Sociocultural Studies at ITESO, Universidad Jesuita de Guadalajara, Mexico.
