School of Theater, Film and Media Arts | Center for the Performing and Cinematic Arts present
Diamond Screen Film and Media Arts Festival
Monday, April 25 & Tuesday, April 26, 2016
Featuring top entries from students in the Department of Film and Media Arts! The annual event highlights the most creative and outstanding student work in the documentary, narrative, experimental, animation and media arts categories. The festival invokes Temple University founder Russell Conwell’s “acres of diamonds” speech: the next generation of filmmakers are creating inventive, compelling work in Temple’s own backyard.
On Tuesday, April 26, the School of Theater, Film and Media Arts will honor Garrett Brown with the 2015-2016 TFMA Tribute Award for his unparalleled innovations to contemporary filmmaking and Benjamin Semonoff with the TFMA Alumni Award for his contributions to the field.
Best known as the Oscar-winning inventor of the Steadicam, Brown has shot with his invention on nearly 100 movies including Rocky, The Shining, Return of the Jedi, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Casino. Brown holds 50 patents worldwide for devices. He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, the Directors Guild, the Screen Actors Guild and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Brown joined the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2009, and is a 2013 inductee into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
The Department of Film and Media Arts finds a new screening venue: the historic Temple Performing Arts Center on Broad Street. Enjoy light hors d'oeuvres and drinks with live music provided by Boyer College of Music and Dance students, followed by screenings of original and inspiring films.
