The Distinguished Alumni Series recognizes the outstanding achievements of graduates of Temple’s Doctoral English Program, whose work and career exemplify the highest goals of the profession, whether in the academy or in other accomplishments related to the humanities.
Daniel Ryan Morse is a writer, educator, musician, and recording engineer based in Reno, Nevada. He is associate professor of English at the University of Nevada, Reno and received his BA from the George Washington University and PhD from Temple University (in 2014). Morse is the author of Radio Empire: The BBC’s Eastern Service and the Emergence of the Global Anglophone Novel (Columbia University Press, 2020). Radio Empire--a 2021 Choice Outstanding Academic Title--was reviewed in Modernism/modernity, The Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Television, The LSE Review of Books, Radio User, The Orwell Foundation Blog, and CHOICE. The book demonstrates the significance of the Eastern Service for global Anglophone literature and literary broadcasting by tracing how modernist writers used radio to experiment with form and introduce postcolonial literature to global audiences. Other scholarly work of his has appeared in the Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Television, the Journal of Literary and Cultural Disability Studies, and Modernism/modernity. He also contributes gear reviews to Tape Op: The Creative Music Recording Magazine.
