In honor of heart month, the Temple Heart & Vascular Institute is proud to announce the second annual Citywide Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Conference for under-represented minority (URM) premedical and medical trainees interested in pursuing a career in cardiovascular medicine. The conference will provide attendees with access to a multi-generational group of cardiovascular medicine physicians, offering them opportunities to learn about careers in the field, educating them about cardiovascular health disparities and providing them opportunities to network with physicians.
This conference represents one of a series of initiatives by the Collaborative for Cardiovascular Health Equity in North Philadelphia. The collaborative consists of investigators from the Temple Heart & Vascular Institute and the Office of Community Engaged Research and Practice at Temple University, and has a shared mission to achieve cardiovascular health equity for the residents of North Philadelphia. Conferences such as this will provide opportunities for under-represented minority students, including women, to learn about the field of cardiology and will ensure there is a pipeline of URM physicians interested in pursuing a career in cardiovascular medicine in the U.S. This conference is unique in that it seeks to engage trainees from the greater Philadelphia area as well as the tristate region. The conference is made possible due to a grant award from the Edna Kynett foundation.
