Speaker: Dr. Jennifer Anné (CST 2010), SECU DinoLab, North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences
Title: Zapping Fossils: A chemical approach to paleontology
Abstract: New advances in chemical analyses have opened the doors for the possibilities of identifying original preserved material in fossilized material. From pigments to photosynthesis, the preservation of original biological processes is ever expanding. Dr. Anné will go over just a few of these fossil finds that have been turning up with an emphasis on her work at the Standford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource on bone chemistry in a variety off extant and extinct organisms.
