The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics Seminar Series presents: Dr. Loni Philip Tabb: “The Spatial (And Temporal) Statistical Operationalization of Structural Racism: Understanding Its Impact on Cardiovascular Health Inequities”.
This seminar will focus on: (1) comparisons of various residential segregation measures, and how to statistically operationalize them; and (2) an assessment of the spatial heterogeneity in Black-White differences in CVH across the United States, and how individual- and neighborhood-level characteristics (inclusive of the structural racism domain of residential segregation) explain these inequities. Utilizing Bayesian statistical frameworks to fit spatially varying coefficient models, results showed overall and spatially varying inequities, where Black participants had significantly poorer CVH, and the resulting maps of the state level varying effects also highlighted how inequities differ across the US.
Dr. Loni Philip Tabb is the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, and the Associate Professor of Biostatistics and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Drexel University’s Dornsife School of Public Health.
