The Young Widower’s Handbook: A Novel by Tom McAllister

After the sudden death of his wife Kait, Hunter Cady is crushed. Numb with grief, he stumbles forward the only way he knows: by running away.

Tom McAllister is an Associate Professor in the English Department at Temple University. His memoir, Bury Me in My Jersey, was published by Villard in 2010, and his shorter work has appeared in numerous publications, including The Best American Nonrequired Reading, Hobart, and Black Warrior Review. This novel, McAllister’s first, is included on Barnes & Noble's Discover Great New Writers List for Spring 2017, and was called “a remarkable debut novel” by Publisher's Weekly.

    The Intersection by Brad Windhauser

When a white driver critically injures an African American bicyclist, the residents in a tense, gentrifying South Philadelphia neighborhood can’t decide whether to unite, hide, or explode.

Brad Windhauser has an MFA in Creative Writing from Queens University of Charlotte and is an Associate Professor (Teaching/Instructional) of writing at Temple University. His short stories and work have appeared in The Baltimore Review, Santa Fe Writer’s Project Journal, Ray’s Road Review, Northern Liberties Review, Philadelphia Review of Books, and Jonathan.

This program is part of the Libraries' Beyond the Page public programming series.
