2017 French, German, Italian and Slavic Film Festival: Sex and Power in International Cinema
A 2014 Russian drama film directed by Andrey Zvyagintsev, Leviathan is set in a fictional Russian town. The plot follows the tragic series of events that affect Kolya, a hotheaded car mechanic, his second wife Lilya and his teenage son. The town's crooked Mayor has undertaken a legal plot to expropriate the land on which Kolya's house is built.
The film has won a number of international awards, including the Best Screenplay at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, the Best Foreign Language Film at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards, and nominations for the 2015 Oscars and the 2015 BAFTAs.
