Adebayo Oluwayomi's new book, Foundations of Black Epistemology, delineates Black epistemology as a new sub-disciplinary focus in contemporary Africana or Black philosophy. He engages in a rigorous historical study of Black intellectual history to show how seminal Black thinkers have long been interested in and engaged with questions concerning the phenomenon of human knowledge, and questions around human agency, including practical considerations regarding the social and political values of knowledge. 

Oluwayomi will be in conversation with the esteemed Dr. Molefi Kete Asante about his new book, Africana studies, and Black philosophy.

César Cabezas, Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Temple University, will introduce the program. 

Adebayo Oluwayomi is Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at West Chester University and the author of Foundations of Black Epistemology: Knowledge Discourse in Africana Philosophy (Temple).

Dr. Molefi Kete Asante is Professor Extraordinarius at the University of South Africa and professor in the Department of Africology at Temple University. Named one of the “100 Leading Thinkers” in America by Utne Reader, Asante is a Library of Congress History Maker who the New York Times describes as a scholar “known for his pioneering work in the area of Afrocentricity.”
