We have a very special event planned for November's First Friday. This month the bus will leave from 13th & Diamond Street at 4:30 pm and go to the (free) CraftNOW Symposium at UArts to hear Tyler Professor Roberto Lugo's Keynote talk "Pottery Saved My Life." At 6 pm, we’ll get back on the bus to go to our regular Old City First Friday Art Crawl, this month with the special CraftNOW theme. You’ll be able to see Professor Lugo’s show at the Wexler gallery so you can view his expertly thrown ceramic vessels that are illustrated with activists, political figures, and hip-hop legends.
Roberto Lugo grew up as a poor, brown kid from the ghetto of Kensington Philadelphia. This experience has provided years of research from which his work as a potter, activist, culture-maker, rapper, poet, and educator has developed. Lugo will share his journey with audiences as evidence that craft and making can ignite change and save lives.
Bus leaves from the Betsy Ross house on Arch between 2nd & 3rd Streets at 8:45 to bring you back to Temple. All riders are provided with a gallery map and listing of art openings in the neighborhood. Bus is firstcome/first served; don’t be late! We will leave as soon as the bus is full, so we may leave before 4:30 pm. This will be the last First Friday event of the semester.
