Tired of seeing useable items thrown out at the end of each schoolyear? Want to help fund awesome student resources and reduce the impact of waste on campus?
Give + Go Green is an annual event where students donate food, clothing, and office supply items that they do not wish to take with them when they move out of the residence halls in May. Each year, we promote sustainable move-out practices through encouraging students to donate clothes and non-perishable food in the collection boxes in the lobbies of our residence halls.
That's where you come in! The Office of Sustainability is looking for volunteers to help sort donations and ensure that everything being kept is a quality product that can be used again. At the end of sorting, the food is donated directly to Temple's own Cherry Pantry, and the clothing is sold during Temple Thrift events. Donated clothing items provide a low-cost shopping alternative during on campus thrift sales, while food items are given to the Cherry Pantry to help alleviate food insecurity and access issues on campus.
Last year, the program collected 4,781 pounds of food, clothing, and other items that benefited the campus community and raised $7,236 for the Cherry Pantry.
