About the lecture
The Rocking the World course is based on the book Caste: The Origins of our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson, which ties together the history of slavery and racism in the United States, the caste system of India, and the Holocaust during World War II. The course was team taught by Dana Saewitz, David Brown and Meghna Tallapragada. We held three days of class during winter break, during which each of the instructors tackled one of the three topics. Then we took 22 students to Washington, DC to visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture as well as the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. Dana's sabbatical project included building a website that displays each of the powerful works created by our students. We then held a symposium in Annenberg Hall atrium in April, where each student proudly displayed and discussed their work. Together, our students learned that each one of us can rock the world.
