Celebrate the opening of John Coltrane: A Love Supreme, an exhibition honoring Philadelphia’s own saxophonist and composer, John Coltrane, in commemoration of his 90th Birthday. This exhibit explores Coltrane’s musical legacy through unique, historical items from the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection.
We will also screen John Coltrane House: Giant Steps of Philadelphia(2016), a documentary short by the John Coltrane House Film Committee and the Scribe Video Center’s Precious Places Community History Program. The John Coltrane House is an immense cultural asset to Philadelphia.
Overall partners: Philadelphia Jazz Project, Ars Nova, Boyer College of Music and Dance, special thanks to Terell Stafford, director of jazz studies and chair of instrumental studies at Boyer.
This program is part of the Libraries' Beyond the Page public programming series.
