Dr. Shaeeda Mensah, is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Philosophy. "Do you know her name?" In our contemporary times, analyses of mass incarceration and police brutality are taken up by scholars across countless fields. What remains, undertheorized, I will argue in this paper, are the ways in which Black women are impacted by state violence, which I take to include both mass incarceration and state violence. Accordingly, Black men and boys have been established as the targets of state violence. The goal of this people is to problematize this approach, and highlight the ways in which Black women have historically been, and continue to be, both directly and indirectly impacted by state violence in the United States.
