Lecture: Dr. Heather Dichter, "The 1968 Olympics... in Divided Berlin?"

    College of Liberal Arts

Dr. Heather Dichter chronicles the efforts of West Berlin mayor Willy Brandt to bring the 1968 Olympics Games to the city of Berlin which had only recently been divided by the Berlin Wall. As they learned of this effort to overcome Cold War politics less than two years after the erection of the Berlin Wall, NATO diplomats worked to derail Brandt's plan, which went against NATO's support of West Germany's nonrecognition of East Germany.
