The Digital Scholarship Center of Temple Libraries joins New York University and Fordham University for a day-long conference on text encoding problems. “Queer Encoding: Encoding Diverse Identities” explores difficulties in the standard process of adding metadata to digital texts with the markup language TEI (Text Encoding Initiative). The conference looks at how the current practice of digitization might better represent geographically, culturally, and otherwise, diverse textual identities.
Students and faculty members can drop by any time to enjoy part of the event through live stream at the Digital Scholarship Center.
Keynote Presenters:
- Prof. Julia Flanders, Professor of the Practice in English and the Director of the Digital Scholarship Group in the Northeastern University Library. She also directs the Women Writers Project and serves as editor in chief of Digital Humanities Quarterly.
- Prof. Marcus Bingenheimer, Department of Religion at Temple University. He leads the Chinese internationalization of TEI project and has lead multiple teams creating high-quality digital editions of ancient Chinese manuscripts.
