Midday Arts Series
A series of literary readings and arts events throughout the semester, featuring work by Temple students, faculty, alumni, and friends
Join us as composer Dr. Andrea Clearfield presents on her Tibetan music documentation in the Nepalese Himalayas to help preserve the music of an ancient horse culture, one of the last remaining enclaves of traditional Tibetan culture in the world. Her presentation will include original video and audio of her fieldwork as well as a live performance of the Tibetan songs and her creative responses inspired her by experiences.
Dr. Clearfield received a DMA in Composition from Temple University and is an award-winning full-time composer of music for orchestra, chorus, chamber ensemble, dance, and multimedia collaboration. Among her 140 works are ten cantatas, including one for The Philadelphia Orchestra. She is a recipient of a 2016 Pew Fellowship in the Arts and a 2016 Independence Foundation Fellowship in the Arts. Dr. Clearfield has also held fellowships at the American Academy in Rome and the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center, among others. She is the founder and host of the renowned Philadelphia Salon featuring contemporary, classical, jazz, electronic, dance, and world music now celebrating its 30th year and winner of Philadelphia Magazine’s “Best of Philadelphia” award.
