Music Studies Colloquium presents "Argentine Tango: The Invention of a Tradition"

Center for the Performing and Cinematic Arts

Julia Chindemi (Swarthmore) and Pablo Vila (Temple) re-examine how the history of Argentine popular music in the early twentieth century is currently understood, noting that different genres (tango, canción criolla, milongas camperas, etc.) each attempted to become the “sound of the nation.”
