Adapted from a popular survival-horror video game, Detention is both a supernatural thriller and a political allegory. Set in 1960s Taiwan under the oppressive martial law, the movie begins with two students finding themselves trapped in their haunted school, seeking to come to grips with the literal (and metaphorical) phantoms of the past.
