Douglass Day Transcribe-a-thon

    Temple University Libraries

On Valentine’s Day 2023, you are invited to a transcribe-a-thon in honor of Frederick Douglass' birthday. Although Douglass was born into bondage, and never knew his birthdate, he chose to celebrate every year on February 14th. We celebrate this day as a moment for preserving Black history together.

Join us this year at Temple University’s Charles Library as we celebrate Douglass Day by inviting participants to transcribe the papers of the prominent African-American scholar, Mary Ann Shadd Cary. Transcriptions will be completed using Zooniverse.
    What is a Transcribe-a-thon?

A transcribe-a-thon is an event in which people gather in person or online to work simultaneously on a crowdsourced transcription project. No previous experience is required, training, cake, and good company will be provided!
