As part of Love Data Week, we welcome Dr. Grace Ma from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine’s Center for Asian Health (CAH). Dr. Ma, along with Drs. Lin Zhu and Yin Tan, will discuss their Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) project on addressing health disparities in Hepatitis B and liver cancer. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and liver cancer disproportionately affect Asian Americans and other medically underserved minority populations in the US. Barriers to information and healthcare services for HBV and liver cancer prevention, screening, monitoring and treatment exist on multiple levels: individual, community, healthcare system, and societal/structural.
The presenters will talk about using data from their Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) to understand the gaps in HBV and liver cancer and address the multilevel barriers through culturally-tailored behavioral interventions in Asian American communities. Dr. Ma will also discuss the challenges and successes in data collection in health disparities populations, including those with limited English proficiency and in low-income neighborhoods.
The event will be moderated by Will Dean, Research and Data Services Librarian at the Ginsburg Health Sciences Library. A Q&A session will follow the panel presentation.
In addition to this program, we will be hosting a number of Love Data Week workshops —visit library.temple.edu/workshops for more.
