The singular screenwriter Charlie Kaufman penned Adaption, a meta-fictional exploration of the inside of his own mind. Nicolas Cage plays a double role as the neurotic Kaufman and his fun-loving twin brother as the writer tries and fails to adapt “The Orchid Thief” by Susan Orlean for the screen. Equal parts hilarious and insightful, this movie-about-movies is a high watermark for Kaufman.
