PPL Policy Roundtable - The Assault on LGBTQ Rights

    College of Liberal Arts

Recent years have seen a persistent backlash to successful movements for LGBTQ rights. Alongside such successes as the marriage equality movement, the repeal of the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, and the affirmation of LGBTQ employees’ protected status under the Civil Rights Act of 1964, a fervent anti-LGBTQ movement has continued to push for and enact policies which target LGBTQ people, especially transgender and gender nonconforming youth. In this panel discussion, PPL brings together legal, political, and medical experts and advocates to discuss these policies and the present state of LGBTQ rights in America.

Panelists include Dr. Belinda Birnbaum, MD, co-founder of Physicians for a Healthy Pennsylvania, Professor Leonore F. Carpenter, Associate Professor of Law at the Rutgers University Law School, and Dr. Erin Mayo-Adam, PhD, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Hunter College (CUNY) and Director of the LGBTQ Policy Center at Roosevelt House. The discussion will be moderated by PPL's Associate Director, Dr. Colin Hammar, PhD.
