Looking for an opportunity to do your part and contribute to the environmental health of Philadelphia? Want to celebrate Earth Month by giving back to local communities?
Join us on Saturday, April 6th as we travel to Kensington for a day of volunteering! We will work with the New Kensington Community Development Corporation to clean up several blocks in the area in order to reduce pollution and related environmental hazards in the neighborhood. The Office of Sustainability will provide work gloves and SEPTA passes. If you're interested in volunteering and want to travel in a group, please come to the Office of Sustainability (lower level HGSC) at 8:30 am. Otherwise feel free to arrive at any time!
The block cleanup will last from 9am to 12pm. Afterwards, volunteers are welcome to attend the NKCDC Barbeque and Community Health Fair, where several organizations will be tabling on topics such as urban agriculture, environmental health, infrastructure and weatherization, and public health improvement initiatives. Participating organizations and institutions may include the University of Delaware, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Temple University Office of Sustainability, and NKCDC Urban Agriculture and Community Garden.
