Rosa Alcalá - Poet
Rosa Alcalá is an award-winning poet and translator whose work has received support from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Harvard’s Woodberry Poetry Room, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Her book Spit Temple: The Selected Performances of Cecilia Vicuña was runner-up for a PEN Translation Award. Her poems have appeared in the Nation, Harper's, The Atlantic, and two volumes of Best American Poetry. Originally from Paterson, NJ, she resides in El Paso, TX, where she holds the DeWetter Endowed Chair in Poetry at the University of Texas at El Paso. YOU, her fourth poetry collection, was recently published by Coffee House Press.
The Poets & Writers Series is sponsored by the Temple University MFA Program in Creative Writing, with the assistance of the Department of English. Each year a number of poets and fiction writers are invited to read from and discuss their work to members of both the Temple community and the local Philadelphia arts scene. All events are free and open to the public.
