Journey of a Thousand Dreams
Journey of a Thousand Dreams is a multi-tiered scholarly project including dance/performance, field, embodied and written research, and pedagogy on the subject of sacred and secular dances of Africa and its diaspora as embodied ancestral inheritances. The presentation includes visual, written, field and embodied research collected and generated from ceremonies, rituals, and performances in Bénin and Senegal, West Africa over the last five years.
yaTande Whitney V. Hunter, PhD, is a Chicago-born and raised, Philadelphia-based dance/performance artist, choreographer, and educator committed to #cultureascatalyst. Dr. yaTande serves as Assistant Professor of Dance and Coordinator of the African Diaspora Dance Series at Temple University where he researches the convergences of sacred and secular ritual, Afro-Spiritualit(ies), and Africanist principles as AfrOist aesthetic in contemporary dance-performance.
