Scientific legal mapping, despite its name, can be used to capture and compare any text that sets rules or guidelines. As long as the standards appear in written form, scientific legal mapping or policy surveillance can be performed on governance standards that are not typically defined as “law” — these may be institutional policies, court case settlements, or other official standards or guidelines set by governments, institutions or organizations.
In this webinar, the panelists will share examples of data that capture institutional policies, such as hospital policies, court case settlements, and school district policies. They will discuss the nuances of coding this type of text to create data for evaluation and for use in practice and offer advice on best practices and lessons learned.
The Legal Epi at Lunch Webinar Series, hosted by the Center for Public Health Law Research at the Beasley School of Law, focuses on exploring in-depth methodological issues or approaches in scientific legal mapping and legal epidemiology research. Each one-hour session will include expert staff from the Center for Public Health Law Research and guest researchers and practitioners using legal epidemiology methods in a unique or innovative way and will offer best practices, technology solutions, tips, and tricks for attendees.
