"NORITA" - Film Screening and Talk With Film Producer Dr. Sarah Schoellkopf

    College of Liberal Arts

Exploring activism, dictatorship, and women's rights, NORITA takes audiences on a gripping journey through Argentina’s tumultuous history, where Nora Cortiñas’ tragedy catalyzes public change. As a mother seeking justice for her disappeared son during the dark days of Argentina's dictatorship in the 1970s, the film chronicles Nora’s journey to seek justice for the past and consequently inspire a new global generation of women fighting for their freedoms. Nora's unwavering determination and fearless activism led her to co-found the renowned Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo. Her legacy endures as a pivotal international human rights organization with enormous global influence. NORITA’s narrative presents a compelling account that engages students and faculty alike.

NORITA has received widespread critical acclaim and offers thought-provoking content, striking visuals (including beautiful animation), and the ability to stimulate essential conversations around collective citizen resistance against tyranny. Until her dying day, Nora Cortiñas continued la lucha in solidarity with major social struggles worldwide. Now more than ever, her story reminds us of what horrors occur should governments dictate what is correct and eradicate those voices of resistance.

The Q&A portion will also be in-person and on Zoom from 5:10-6:00 pm: https://temple.zoom.us/j/98577260118
