A History of the Prince Hall Masons

    Temple University Libraries
    Portrait of Prince Hall

Join us for a conversation with Felix E. Gardenhire, Worshipful Grand Historian, and Melvin A. Alston, Sr. #9, Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania. Together, they will present the history of Prince Hall Masonry in Pennsylvania from its early beginnings with founders Absalom Jones and Richard Allen. They will also discuss the Prince Hall Masons’ participation as abolitionists and freedom fighters, prior to and during the Civil War, in addition to Masonry’s expansion across the Commonwealth and United States.

The program will highlight the Prince Hall Masonry’s growth over two centuries in three parts: Part 1 (1797-1900); Part 2 (1900-1965); and Part 3 (1965-present). The program will conclude with the Grand Master presenting his current and future vision of Prince Hall Masonry’s influence in the African American community.

    Registration is requested.
