Dr. Eduardo S. Brondízio

“Agency, agents and flows at the rural-urban interface in changing Amazonia”

Dr. Eduardo S. Brondízio is Distinguished Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Anthropology, Indiana University Bloomington, where he is the Director of the Center for the Analysis of Social Ecological Landscapes (CASEL). His research contributes with a ‘grounded complex systems perspective’ to the study of regional and global change by examining social-ecological-political-historical processes in Amazonia and their interactions with local, regional, and global processes.

Dr. Brondizio has contributed to the global change research programs, in particular, the International Geosphere Biosphere Program (IGBP), and was a member of the inaugural science committee of Future Earth. He also has contributed to regional, national, and global assessments such as the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, the UNEP's Global Environmental Outlook (GEO-4), the Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) and  the Global Forest Expert Panels (GFEP) on Forests and Food Security [IUFRU, FAO], among others. Brondizio is currently the Co-Chair of the IPBES Global Assessment of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (2016-2019) and serves as co-Editor-in-Chief of Current Opinions in Environmental Sustainability (Elsevier).
