Please join us for a talk by Jared Abbott (Princeton University). Does increasing citizen voice in government decision-making help to reduce their disenchantment with representative democracy? Experimental evidence from Peru and the Dominican Republic finds mixed results: while these participatory institutions increase citizens' perceptions of government responsiveness, they do not have any effect on their satisfaction with democracy.
