Join us for a special livestreamed interview during Engineers Week 2021, where two faculty members speak about how engineering can help (or has already helped) respond to COVID-19. Event will be livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube.
Dr. David Brookstein, Senior Associate Dean and Professor of mechanical engineering, will share his work developing a DIY face covering solution that was shared with the Lewis Katz School of Medicine. From there, volunteers created thousands of masks and shared them with the neighborhood surrounding the medical campus, to help mitigate community spread of COVID-19. An expert in textile manufacturing, Dr. Brookstein has continued research in this area by focusing on how face coverings can go beyond preventing viral transmission, but deactivating viruses, as well.
Dr. Julie Drzymalski is Professor of Instruction and Director of the Industrial and Systems Engineering Program at Temple. With research interests centered on supply chain robustness, modeling of sociotechnical systems, agent based modeling and complex adaptive systems, Dr. Drzymalski can share insights on efficient and equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines through a systems engineering lens.
